macOS Catalina - SCS Computing Supported Applications

Note: 32-bit applications do not run on macOS Catalina.

SCS Computing Facilities has  validated macOS Catalina for software support. This page outlines the current state of applications and services that we support with Catalina. Please note there are some applications that are not fully compatible with Catalina but we have noted what the exceptions below.

If an application or service you use is not on this list, check with the application vendor to see if it is compatible with this version of the operating system.

The release of macOS Catalina completes a transition to exclusively-64-bit software that Apple has been carrying out since the introduction of macOS High Sierra in 2017. Catalina drops all support for 32-bit applications. Security
ESET (Antivirus) Supported This is antivirus software for university owned Macs. ESET is available through Self Service.
Sophos Home (Antivirus) Supported This is antivirus software for personally owned Macs. Not permitted to use on University owned Macs. Prompts for Full Disk Access on first launch.
Shibboleth (WebLogin) Supported No issues found.
CrashPlan Works With Exceptions Jamf Pro SCS enrolled Macs get Full Disk Access granted to the CrashPlan application automatically. However, manual installs of CrashPlan should grant Full Disk Access (System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Full Disk Access) to the application for functional backups of their home directory. Also, we suggest verifying functionality with a restore of a backup after setting this setting to ensure backups are working.
TiBS Supported This is archival backup software for servers. It is not intended for desktops or laptops.
Printing
Campus Printing Supported No issues found.
SCS Printing Supported SCS-Public is confirmed working on Catalina. Installs via Self-Service are supported.
Browsers
Mozilla Firefox Supported No issues found.
Google Chrome Supported No issues found.
Email
Outlook Supported Outlook for Mac with Exchange
Outlook Web Access (OWA) Supported Exchange Email and Calendar (OWA via Safari) No issues.
Apple Mail Not Working Apple Mail Catalina has been reported as deleting email by third parties even as of 10.15.7. SCS still does not recommend using it until Apple patches the bug.
Apple Calendar Works With Exceptions Confirmed working, but suggest using OWA or Outlook until Apple Mail bug is fixed as these two apps are often used in conjunction.
Thunderbird Supported No issues found.
G Suite @ CMU
G Suite Apps Supported G Suite apps via Safari (Sheets, Docs, etc.) No issues found.
Outlook for Mac Supported Outlook for Mac with G Suite. No issues found.
Apple Mail Not Working Apple Mail Catalina has been reported as deleting email by third parties even as of 10.15.7. SCS still does not recommend using it until Apple patches the bug.
Apple Calendar Works With Exceptions Apple Calendar with Google Calendar. Apple Mail Catalina has been reported as deleting email. We do not recommend using it until Apple patches the bug.
Thunderbird Supported Thunderbird with G Suite.
Google Drive File Stream Supported No issues found.
Productivity Software
Microsoft Office 365 Supported Latest version of Office 365 with Catalina support now available Self Service.
Adobe Acrobat DC Works With Exceptions Latest version is supported which requires an Adobe Enterprise IDs which we provide via Federated Andrew IDs. Please contact the SCS Help Desk for more information until we have a more formal page up explaining the details.
