Ubuntu 20.04 - End of Life

Support Ending May 31, 2025

We're phasing out support for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and will remove software support for computers still running it after May 31, 2025.

What's Happening?

Canonical, the operating system vendor, will officially end hardware and maintenance support for Ubuntu Linux 20.04 in May 2025. As a result, SCS Computing will end support for Ubuntu Linux 20.04 LTS on May 31, 2025.

What do I need to do?

Depending on your use case, you have several options:

What is Extended Security Maintenance (ESM)?

We understand there are special situations that may limit the ability to upgrade a computer's operaing system. Extended Security Maintenance (ESM) is a subscription that allows you to continue to receive security updates, critical software packages and infrastructure components for a Ubuntu LTS that has reached end-of-life (EOL). Certain limitations apply.

What does "removing support" mean?

If you do not upgrade to a supported OS, software support will be removed automatically as of June 1, 2025. Unsupported computers limit our ability to help you:

  • Your computer will not receive security patches or functionality updates.
  • Our engineering and help desk teams will no longer troubleshoot software and operating system issues on your machine.
