Receiving

The SCS Receiving office is located in Wean Hall 3613. We process package deliveries and distribution during normal business hours and are available to our community under the following schedule:

Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm
Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00am to 4:00pm

We encourage you to contact our office before arriving to assure someone is available to assist you.

Our receiving office handles deliveries of technical procurement orders as well as general deliveries for the School of Computer Science. In addition, we offer general shipment assistance with hardware and other peripherals.  We also assign CMU asset tags for tracking and registration purposes.

Notification Services

We will notify you, via e-mail notification, once the order arrives. If the item is a computer, you will also receive additional information concerning how to register your new machine for service and support.

Pickup Availability

Orders delivered to SCS Receiving are available for pickup in Wean Hall 3613, between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday, Wednesday, Friday; 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Tuesday, Thursday.  Photo ID is required.

Please pick up your order within 30 days of notification.

Hardware and Peripheral Return/Shipment Services

Receiving staff can assist in efforts relating to the return of technical hardware. We are happy to provide assistance and feedback regarding special shipment scenarios where coordination may be necessary. 

Receiving for purchases made outside of SCS Procurement

Once your equipment is delivered to you from a vendor, bring it to Wean Hall 3613 with the following information to acquire a Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) asset tag for asset tracking and registration purposes:

  • Invoice (receipt) that shows the cost of the item, the cost of the machine determines the type of CMU asset tag is assigned to the equipment
  • The serial number
  • The model and manufacturer
  • Who the equipment primary user will be?
  • Who else is should be listed as a contact for the equipment
  • Final location of equipment
  • Department within School of Computer Science

Items purchased with a Pcard or if the item is going to be reimbursed by the university, it is NOT considered personal equipment. These purchases ARE the property of Carnegie Mellon University and need to be reflected as such in the registration process.
