Ubuntu 16.04 - End of Life

Ubuntu Linux 16.04 LTS is no longer supported

Ubuntu Linux 16.04 LTS reached the end of its five-year LTS window on April 30th 2021 and is no longer supported by its vendor, Canonical except through a paid annual Extended Security Maintenance (ESM). At that time, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS stopped receiving security patches or other software updates through our standard software support.

SCS Computing Facilities (SCSCF) has ended support for Ubuntu Linux 16.04 LTS on April 30th, 2021

Extended Security Maintenance (ESM)

To provide an alternative for computers that have not yet been upgraded or will not upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04, SCS Computing Facilities (SCSCF) is working with Canonical to purchase Extended Security Maintenance (ESM) for those who wish to continue to receive software support on their 16.04 computers.Through this special ESM offering, servers (physical as well as virtual) and desktops could still receive security updates for a additional annual cost. (This is in addition to the monthly software support subscription fee.)

What do I need to do?

No standard software support available.

If you do not to upgrade your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS computer, it will not receive security patches or functionality updates. Unsupported computers limit our ability to help you. SCSCF software support charges were canceled automatically as of May 1, 2021.
